Sembolize is a Turkish word puzzle game. Every level shows you a handful of symbols — small pictures that each hint at a piece of the answer — and your job is to work out the word or phrase they point to together. A camel and a needle might be an old proverb; a crown and a microphone might be a television series.
The game is organised into 38 categories, each with its own theme: proverbs and sayings, films, television series, brand names, everyday objects, geography, wordplay and more. Categories unlock as you solve levels, so the puzzles open up gradually.
Depending on the category, you answer in one of three ways:
When you are stuck you can reveal a letter, clear three wrong letters off the keyboard, or skip the level altogether. Hints are paid for with in-game coins, which you earn by solving levels. Solving a level without any hints pays more.
Losing a level costs one energy. Energy refills on its own over time, so a bad run only means a short break rather than a dead end.
Sembolize does not ask you to create an account, and it never asks for your name or your email address. You can install the game and play straight away.
On Android, the game uses Google Play Games sign-in for one purpose only: saving your progress to the cloud. If you reinstall the game or move to a new phone, the levels you have solved, your coins and your remaining hints come back with you instead of being lost.
That save file is kept in a private application folder in your Google Drive. Only Sembolize can read or write it. The game cannot see your documents, your photos, or anything else stored in your Drive, and it does not read your contacts or your Google profile beyond the Play Games account used to sign in. On iOS the same job is done with iCloud.
If you would rather not sign in, the game still works. Your progress is simply kept on that device only, and will be lost if you uninstall the game.
